Family legacy returns to the cycling retail sector in Orange as Héritage Vélo opens its doors at the former location of La Pédalerie, breathing new life into a storefront that closed its doors twelve years ago, laprovence.com reported.
Experienced Operators Launch New Retail Footprint
- New Retail Footprint: Héritage Vélo officially opened on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, taking over the former La Pédalerie space on Avenue de Verdun.
- Experienced Operators: The trio behind the revival—Jehan-Maxime Knipping, Cyprien Ravat, and Jean-François Florent—already operate three other cycling shops in the region.
- Scheduled Milestones: While the shop opened early in November, the official public inauguration is scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2026.
Reviving a Historic Orange Location
Decades ago, Orange supported roughly ten dedicated bicycle shops. Over time, that network shrank significantly, leaving Olivier Trousse operating in the Saint-Germain industrial zone after La Pédalerie on Avenue de Verdun closed down in 2014.
That dynamic shifted when a new venture stepped into the vacant space. Jehan-Maxime Knipping, his brother-in-law Cyprien Ravat, and their business partner Jean-François Florent decided to take over the historic retail site. The storefront previously belonged to Knipping’s grandfather, Jean-Louis Picca.
The group already manages three established cycling businesses in the region: Vaison Bike in Vaison-la-Romaine, Vélo Attitude in Venelles, and Génération Vélo in Salon-de-Provence within the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
Family Heritage Inspires New Shop Location
Opening a new location in Orange was not part of the group’s initial expansion strategy. However, encountering the vacant storefront changed their plans.
, Jehan-Maxime Knipping stated.
The connection to the location carries deep personal significance for Jean-Louis Picca. Between 1967 and 1977, Picca established himself as a dominant regional cyclist. Competing in the first category, he secured more than 100 victories, earned titles as Provence cadet and junior champion, and claimed the Provence championship across all categories twice.
Mes petits-enfants m’ont annoncé la nouvelle lors de mon anniversaire. Je ne pouvais recevoir plus beau cadeau
, Jean-Louis Picca remarked.
Product Offerings and Opening Schedule
Héritage Vélo will stock both traditional mechanical bicycles and electric-assist road bikes. The inventory also includes mountain bikes and gravel models from major brands such as Schott, Orbéa, and Factor.
Beyond bicycle sales, the shop provides a comprehensive selection of apparel and equipment for riders, alongside a dedicated repair workshop to service local cyclists. The formal grand opening and official inauguration for Héritage Vélo are set for Friday, December 4, 2026.
