Hiker found hypothermic 14-year-old Syrian in Carinthian mountains

According to mountain rescue, a 61-year-old hiker heard cries for help while hiking through the bear pit. He made the emergency call after he found the severely hypothermic teenager who could no longer move on his own. Due to strong winds, a helicopter landing was only possible one kilometer away.

Barely responsive and in severe pain

Six mountain rescuers climbed up to the young Syrian, who was at 1,200 meters above sea level in partly snowy, wet, steep, wooded terrain. He was barely responsive and complained of severe pain, which is why the emergency medical helicopter was called after the police helicopter. The rescuers stabilized the 14-year-old on a stretcher and rappelled him down to an open spot in the forest, where he was picked up by the emergency helicopter using rope rescue and flown to the Klagenfurt Clinic.

It was initially unclear how the 14-year-old got into this predicament. An interview by the police was initially pending.
