Like every year, back to school rhymes with property tax. Whether sent online or by mail, paid monthly or not, property tax notices will be arriving in owners’ mailboxes throughout the month of September. Once will not hurt, they will be keen to check if it has increased and if so, how much.

With + 51.9%, that of the capital holds by far the record of France. Far ahead of Grenoble (+ 25%), Metz (+ 14.3%) or Limoges (+ 10%). Not all are on the rise, however. “One in five municipalities”, according to the Association of Mayors of France (AMF).

A minimum increase of 7.1% in one year

In any case, you will have to pay at least 7.1% more than last year. And for good reason: this automatic increase is linked to the revaluation of rental values, itself indexed to inflation.

By viewing the data published by the FSL firm – compiled for French municipalities with more than 40,000 inhabitants -, even if the change displayed is 0%, it will therefore be necessary to add + 7.1%. Thus, in Paris, the increase felt by the owners of the capital will not be 51.9%, but 59%.

Contacted, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announces that it will publish “very soon” the rates voted in all the municipalities. In the meantime, if you do not live in one of the 191 municipalities displayed, the easiest way is to call your town hall to find out.
