Taylor Swift become victims of abusers AI or artificial intelligence. AI-generated obscene images of the world’s most famous singer circulated widely on social media. This shows the potential for damage by AI technology, namely the ability to create images that look very realistic and damaging.
Fake images of Taylor Swift are mostly circulating on the social media site X, or Twitter. The photos showed her in sexually suggestive and explicit positions and were viewed tens of millions of times before being removed.
Taylor Swift was reportedly furious and considering the possibility of suing the site responsible for producing the photo. “Whether or not legal action will be taken is being decided but one thing is clear, these fake AI-generated images are abusive, offensive, exploitative and were done without Taylor’s consent and/or knowledge,” the source said.
“Taylor’s family and friends are furious, and so are the fans. They have a right to be, and every woman should be,” she added as quoted detikINET from the New York Post, Saturday (27/1/2024).
This incident occurred when the United States entered the presidential election year. Concern is growing about how misleading AI images and videos can be used to fuel disinformation efforts.
“This is a prime example of how AI is being used for a variety of nefarious reasons without sufficient barriers in place to protect the public,” said Ben Decker, an analyst with digital investigative agency Memetica.
Decker said the exploitation of generative AI tools to create potentially harmful content targeting public figures is increasing and spreading faster than ever on social media. “Social media companies have no effective plan to monitor their content,” he said.
X, for example, has ditched much of its content moderation team and is relying on automated systems and user reporting. Meta also reduces the number of teams working on disinformation.
Decker said, however, that Taylor Swift’s case could bring more attention to the growing issue of AI risks. Swifties’ huge loyal fans expressed outrage on social media and brought the issue to the fore.
“When you have figures like Taylor Swift being targeted this much, perhaps this is what prompts legislators and tech companies to take action,” he said.
