Friends of the Duke of Sussex had said that Harry had been annoyed when his father had not been able to see him, but had instead attended – a couple of kilometers from St Paul’s Cathedral, where his son was for the Invictus ceremony – the first outdoor reception in the Buckingham Palace gardens. The Sussexes’ spokesperson had laconically explained that the two would not see each other due to «her Majesty’s full agenda. The Duke obviously realizes his father’s commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

“It’s all very sad,” a friend of the king said, according to the Times. «Although – continued the man – he would hardly have rolled out the red carpet when this trip for Invictus was announced, with doctors advising him to focus on treatment and recovery, the idea that he refused to find space in his agenda… Well, let’s say that the reconstructions could be different once again.”

Speculations aside, the fact remains that Harry attended the ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral only with relatives on his maternal side, and did not see either his father or brother William. GB News claims the Duke of Sussex has been offered a royal residence to stay in during his two-day trip to London. However Harry chose to stay in a hotel during his stay in the UK. The Sussexes no longer have a base in the UK after King Charles evicted the couple from Frogmore Cottage in the summer of 2023. Harry and Meghan Markle had used the royal residence very little since stepping down as active members of the royal family and had moved to the United States in 2020.
