Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), it is no longer necessary to film a person in front of a green screen to be able to isolate them from the setting – and insert another. It is now possible to erase what is in the character’s background and embed it in other backgrounds! Here’s how to do it.
Until recent times, when it was necessary to embed an actor in a setting that is not easy to reconstruct – the Middle Ages, ancient Greek civilization, etc. – the most common method was to film it in front of a green screen. The green screens in question are of a particular shade, which is rarely found in real life. During editing, all you have to do is remove this green tint from the filmed image. The actor(s) can then be superimposed on the setting of their choice, whether fixed or animated.
If you are a YouTuber, it is likely that you have already used this green screen technique to film yourself or other people.
However, things have changed significantly with the rise of artificial intelligence (IAIA). It has become possible to remove a character’s background image, and this represents a huge step forward for anyone who regularly produces clips.

Removing an image background with Capcut
Here we are going to use a high-quality video editing tool, Capcut, and as you will see, it performs the desired operation brilliantly. The Capcut homepage can be found here: https://www.capcut.com/my-edit.
This applicationapplication is accessible in French. Register by providing an email address. To save time, you can choose your identifier GoogleGoogle (GmailGmail), FacebookFacebook or TikTokTikTok. The very first time, you will need to answer a few questions regarding how you intend to use this tool.
Then click on “New Video”. Click “+” to upload the clip for which you want to erase the background. Note that you have a certain amount of free space allocated by Capcut for your videos, usually 5 GB or less. The clip is loaded into Capcut and you can play it from its interface.
Select the entire clip by clicking on the area that has been loaded into Capcut – a borderborder blue appears around the clip. You will then see a menu displayed. Click “Smart Tools” then “Remove Background”. Select “Auto Delete”. You will then see the words “Background removal in progress” appear in the clip area. Be patient as this operation may take some time.
Once the deletion is complete, you can see that the decor has been replaced by a black background.
Video inlay in a new setting
Now two options are possible. You can export the clip with black background, use it in your usual editing software and load a background video or image in the background.
You can also upload the desired background image or video into Capcut and place it below the clip! Then click “Export” and download the new clip.
When you watch the clip, you may notice a few imperfections here and there. The artificial intelligence does its best to isolate the characters from the setting, but in some places in the clip it may have difficulty making this distinction. It will therefore be necessary to carry out a little editing in order to obtain an impeccable final video.
