Edith Hermida, host, announcer, actress and Bendita TV panelist comes to the Alto Valle with its show one-person “Be patient with me.” Through her fun and witty monologues, Edith gets into topics such as the way in which the radical change from the model of our parents to the model of today’s teenagers goes through us, being a daughter and mother in this time, technology, music, the daily rhythm, the clichés, the commands, the sex, return to the ring after 50 and much more, where the public will identify, laugh and even have catharsis.

With his warm and friendly voice, in dialogue with RÍO NEGRO DiaryEdith Hermida shared a back-and-forth about the show and her view on humor, among other points.

Q: When did you start this sole proprietorship?

R: The sole proprietorship began recently, on June 8, on Corrientes Street (CABA). We started doing shows and more were added (in different locations in the province of Buenos Aires). It’s my bet this year.

Q: What did being a broadcaster, as well as an actress, contribute to your career?

R: On the way to being a broadcaster, I was offered to be “The Witch of Panam”, I enjoyed it a lot and it opened a door to a world I didn’t know about. I studied theater to join my career as a presenter, journalist and panelist. In reality, everything I did throughout my career brought me to this moment, to who I am today. That’s what I want to tell.

Q: How did you write your monologue?

R: I met with Verónica Lorca, director, who asked me “what do you mean?” and he grabbed me like a blank page crisis: then I started to tell him who I am and where I come from, a very humble family, my old truck driver, three sisters, where there was nothing left over, we didn’t make ends meet, but we always gladly. From that sentence on I didn’t stop, I told him my whole life. She helped me put together the timeline, to talk about the changes in times we are experiencing, the path that people of my generation had to retrace. We are in a time of great change on a social level, sometimes I screw up and that’s why I feel like “they don’t have patience with me.”

Humor has saved me from everything in life, it gets me out of the most complicated situations. Always, even in the saddest and most complex situations, I was able to take many things with humor. That can be seen quite a bit in what I do and what I did.

Q: Does humor give you a different perspective and a certain license to address the “big” social issues?

R: I feel that the public forgives me for many things and when I screw up or make a mistake, they let me pass, they know it’s not bad temper.

Q: How do you get along with technology and teen language?

R: I love being updated, I don’t like to think that “every time in the past was better.” I don’t like it when people say that “music was the same as before” or that “fucks were the same as before”, you think that because you remember when you were young. Like your cell phone when it asks you to update the applications: say yes to everything, because if you don’t you will get old, sad and bitter. Young people add a lot to me, I always try to be around them to energize myself, I love it. I notice that my generation has a hard time updating, I want to update them.

Q: What is it like to “get back on track” after 50?

R: That’s costing me a little (laughs) but hey, I’m pretty good at meeting people, one gets more exquisite after fifty.

Q: How do social prejudices, fears, insecurities affect you, can you laugh at that?

R: I think I’m quite confident in myself, that’s something I like about this time: having to be young and pretty all the time doesn’t work anymore. I accuse you of old age.

Q: Some comedians say that you can laugh at absolutely everything. What is it like for you?

R: What I like about this time is that the passage of time is not a sin. That’s why I openly say that I am 53 years old. That thing about women “not being asked their age”, I say it because I have it, it is not a sin to grow up, nothing happens. If I have a few extra rolls and I have cellulite, I show it, I was always like that (laughs). If it makes me want to be without makeup, I am. I always accepted who I was, my body, my face, my crooked teeth, I laugh at it.

I agree that you can laugh at absolutely everything. At wakes, for example. At my wake I want people to laugh openly, not inhibit their laughter, because they are grotesque and terrible situations, which I find funny. In those moments it is good to have a humorous perspective.

Q: What things make you develop patience?

R: I realized that I have little, my radio colleagues point it out to me (laughs).

Q: Were you ever in the area?

R: Yes, I was and I love it. When I travel to San Martín de los Andes and Junín I spend the night in Roca or Neuquén. I also went with Panam on two occasions doing shows and I really enjoyed the tour.

Q: What are your expectations for this weekend’s shows?

R: I think the public is going to enjoy it. It lasts an hour and ten, just enough time for people not to get overwhelmed by my voice. I get a lot of affection at every show. We get excited and reflect together, each show is different because of what the audience contributes. I take photos with everyone, I receive a lot of love with joy, so I am very anxious, looking forward to presenting “Teneme Paciencia.”
