The human rights organization Human Rights Watch raises serious allegations against Saudi border officials. They are said to have killed hundreds of migrants trying to enter the country from Yemen. People are said to have been shot at close range – including children, according to the report. Explosive weapons were also said to have been used.

The period between March 2022 and June 2023 was examined in the publication. Analysis indicated that the killings were continuing. In any case, eyewitnesses reported mountains of corpses along the migration route. “When Saudi security officials see a group of migrants, they keep shooting,” said one of the survivors. Every year more than 200,000 people make the perilous journey from the Horn of Africa to Saudi Arabia.
