Hwarang Elementary School in Gyeongju conducted a month-long regional health education program throughout October to improve student allergy prevention and management skills. In partnership with local professional agencies, the school structured the curriculum around developmental stages to combine theoretical learning with emergency response practice and interactive activities.
Targeted Training and Emergency Practice
The Gyeongju Hwarang Elementary School program featured specialized sessions tailored for different grade levels. On October 12, an instructor from the Gyeongsangbuk-do Atopy-Asthma Education Information Center visited to instruct 5th and 6th-grade students. Participants studied allergy characteristics alongside prevention and management methods, and they engaged directly in model practice using the Jextpen autoinjector to prepare for emergency situations such as anaphylaxis. The session concluded with a tablet PC quiz game to review the material.
Subsequently, on October 21, an instructor from the Gyeongju City Health Center held a customized session for 2nd and 4th graders. After practicing food allergy prevention rules and Jextpen usage, the students participated in a hands-on activity crafting clay soap modeled after major foods that trigger allergies. Through shaping these items visually, the students learned the importance of safety management in their daily diets.
Student Involvement and Administrative Support
Alongside the classroom visits, students in the 4th and 6th grades participated in an Atopy-Asthma Prevention Contest through October 16, expressing allergy management methods via writing and drawings to reinforce proper health habits.
Reflecting on the emergency training, a participating 5th-grade student stated, 뉴스나 책에서만 보던 젝스트펜을 직접 연습해 보아서 응급 상황이 와도 당황하지 않고 대처할 수 있을 것 같다
.
Park Woo-hyung, the principal of Hwarang Elementary School, noted that proper lifestyle prevention and swift responses during emergencies must occur together, explaining that the institution pursues practical health education linked with regional agencies to ensure ongoing support for safe student growth.
