Despite the Hyundai nameplate, these are 2024 cars that formally carry the Solaris brand
An official dealer of the Solaris brand has opened in Chelyabinsk, which replaced the Korean brands Hyundai and Kia. Under her name they sell St. Petersburg-assembled cars, the production of which was restarted at the former Hyundai plant in February 2024. The enterprise is now owned by the Russian AGR Automotive Group, and the cars are assembled from vehicle kits that were left after the Korean alliance left Russia. The range includes the same quartet of models, but with different names: the former Solaris are called HS, the Creta is replaced by the HC, and the Kia Rio with sedan and cross-hatchback body styles is called KRS and KRX.

Before the crisis, there were two holdings in Chelyabinsk that represented the Hyundai brand – Reginas and Planet Auto. The Reginas company told us that they are currently not working with the Solaris brand. The Planet Auto company received official dealership. The car dealership and service are located in the same location – on Kopeiskoye Highway. According to the head of the brand’s sales department, Artur Tungatarov, HS and HC models (formerly Solaris and Creta) are available and the first three cars have already been delivered to customers. Solaris KRS and KRX (ex-Rio) cars are expected later.

The prices are also known: Solaris HS costs from 1.9 million rubles when equipped with a 1.6-liter engine (123 hp), a six-speed automatic transmission and in good configuration with ABS, ESP, audio system, heated seats, air conditioning. The front-wheel drive Solaris HC crossover costs from 2.3 million rubles with the same power unit and similar configuration. Solaris KRS (Rio) should cost close to the HS model, and prices for the KRX version are still unknown, but Moscow dealers are asking about 2.7 million for it. All Solaris vehicles come with an official warranty.

In addition, AGR Automotive Group represents in Russia Kia models imported from China and South Korea, in particular Seltos (from 2.8 million rubles) and Sportage (from 3.4 million). They are also available in Chelyabinsk. The Planet Auto company emphasizes that we are talking about parallel imports with payment of all fees (including VAT), and a guarantee for such cars is provided optionally.

Solaris became the first brand of non-Chinese and non-Russian origin to offer cars priced in the region of 2 million rubles. However, the competition in this segment is serious: for example, for the same money you can buy larger C+ class sedans: Kaiyi E5, Omoda S5, Geely Emgrand, Moskvich-6 and BAIC U5 Plus. Lada Vesta will also be a serious competitor, which recently received a version with a 1.8-liter engine and a CVT: prices start at 1.59 million rubles. Let’s not forget about the Haval Jolion, the basic version of which costs less than 2 million.
