Baran Burhan requested the removal of his immunity from the Parliament. On Tuesday, the president of PASOK removed him from PASOK’s executive committee, until the pending court case against him is fully resolved.
Specifically, in a statement, the MP said “I came today to the Ethics Committee of the Parliament in order to request the lifting of my immunity for the clarification of my personal court case which is pending against me and for which I have unequivocally stated that I am innocent.”
“I don’t hide, nor will I ever hide, behind immunities”
He added that “I did not hide, I am not hiding and I will never hide, behind immunities and procedures. My sole motive is to prove my innocence in full before the Greek Justice like every Greek citizen, having absolute trust in the Judicial Authorities.
Those who invest politically against me and my party on the occasion of this case, wanting to take advantage of this particular event, will be solemnly refuted. I will continue to fight with the same principles and values for the good of society and especially of the citizens of Xanthi who trusted me with their vote”.

Baran Burhan was excluded from the parliamentary group following a decision by Nikos Androulakis, “until the full clarification of the court case pending against him and about which we were informed by the Ethics Committee of the Parliament”, as noted in the relevant announcement by Harilaou Trikoupis.
Finally, according to information, a case file – which concerns a 2016 case – against the now independent MP Baran Burhan for illegal prescriptions has reached the Parliament.
