The arrival of the peloton triggered an explosion of joy for the city center, the scene of a rare event. It was about the first French victory of this Turn 82. But, this success of Pierre-Raymond Villemiane took all the more value in this July 13, 1982, that it came from a brave and pure product of the South- West. Looking cheered up by sniffing the country air, Pierre-Raymond Villemiane had succeeded in the last kilometers to give way to the peloton, to finally win with a two-second lead over the Irishman Sean Kelly, one of the most successful in history.
During his race, he had also sprinted ahead of the formidable Jan Raas. Through a violent start in the rue Esprit-des-Lois, he had acquired a decisive advantage, allowing him to avoid the return of the licensed sprinters. An effort that deserves respect, because it seemed terribly difficult to find fault with the pack of this stage of the Tour de France 1982.
Despite his inaccessibility to the title of winner that year, he was called “hero of the day” by spectators and professionals.
