“Surveillance”. Rarely, no doubt, has this word been used as often as this week in Switzerland. Highlighted by the German-speaking magazine K tip, the CFF project to track travelers in stations has caused a stir. The company’s two-step response, reactions from politicians and experts, an open letter from AlgorithmWatch CH and the Digital Society… The file is extremely sensitive, for several reasons: it concerns millions of travelers, it affects a company at 100 % in public hands and relates to sensitive information about our behavior. Now that the dust seems to have settled, it is useful to put this case into a larger context.
