Index changes: Beiersdorf returns to the DAX

Status: 03.06.2022 11:14 p.m

With Beiersdorf, Deutsche Börse has included an old acquaintance in the DAX. Delivery Hero has to go. There were also changes in the MDAX.

A little over a year after being dropped from the DAX, Beiersdorf is celebrating a comeback in the first German stock exchange league. The Nivea provider replaces Delivery Hero, Deutsche Börse announced.

There have been long discussions about the DAX suitability of the food supplier, said analyst Konstantin Oldenburger from the online broker CMC Markets. “Delivery Hero has been making losses for years and basically does not operate any business or services in Germany itself.” At the same time, Commerzbank narrowly missed being promoted again.

Hensoldt represented in the SDAX

The index of medium-sized stocks, the MDAX, also includes the operator of wind and solar parks Encavis, which was previously listed one level lower in the SDAX and is now swapping places with the financial services provider Hypoport.

In addition to this, the armaments company Hensoldt will be represented in the SDAX again in the future, as well as the wind farm project developer PNE for the first time. The laser expert LPKF and the carbon fiber specialist SGL Carbon have to be eliminated. Hensoldt is also included in the TecDAX, replacing the radiation and medical technology company Eckert & Ziegler.

Changes important for funds

Deutsche Börse will implement the changes on Monday, June 20th. These are particularly important for funds that replicate indices in real terms (physically replicating ETF). There then has to be reallocated and reweighted accordingly, which can have an impact on share prices.

For its index review, Deutsche Börse creates a ranking according to the market capitalization of the free float. The basis for this is the last trade-weighted average price of the month preceding the review date.
