ING continues to clean up its customer portfolio in France

The Dutch establishment, whose customer portfolio in France is to be taken over by Boursorama, is closing all of its house savings accounts for customers who only hold this product.

The Dutch bank ING, whose customer portfolio in France is to be taken over in the coming weeks by Boursorama, announced on Monday the closure of all of its house savings accounts for customers holding only this product.

“After having closed in the summer of 2021 the Livrets Epargne Orange (LEO) of customers who had used their account little in the previous months, ING in France is closing all the LEOs of customers who only hold this product. at ING,” said a press release.

These closures “follow the decision announced by ING on December 21 to withdraw from the online banking market in France”.

Since then, the online bank Boursorama, a subsidiary of Societe Generale, has indicated that it was in exclusive negotiations with ING to acquire its portfolio of customers in France, for an undisclosed amount.

This operation should materialize in April, indicated a spokesman of the Dutch bank with the AFP.

Customers holding other products (current account, booklet A, life insurance, securities accounts, etc.) “are not affected by these closures”, specifies the press release.

Notifications will be sent in two stages, this Monday and next Monday. The closing of the booklets will be effective two months after receipt of the mail.

ING announced the withdrawal of its online banking activity in France last December, after several weeks of rumors and “conclusion of a strategic review carried out since June 2021”.

The Dutch banking giant had also said that an agreement with the unions had been signed concerning the measures accompanying a plan to safeguard jobs, which will lead to “around 460 job cuts”.

It also announced on February 3 that it had almost doubled its net profit in 2021, to 4.7 billion euros.

The online bank ING has been present in France since 2000, making it one of the pioneers in this sector which has seen the number of players multiply in recent years.
