The study done to see the performance of this blood test was done on 5.40 participants who underwent blood sampling after seeing a doctor for non-specific symptoms such as weight loss or unexpected pain. For 323 individuals, the result made it possible to detect a symptom of cancer. 244 patients subsequently received a positive diagnosis of cancer, giving a positive predictive accuracy of 75%.

Even better, the ‘Galleri test’ also accurately indicates where the cancer is in the patient in around 85% of positive cases. The sensitivity of the test was shown to be higher for advanced stage cancers, ranging from 24.2% for stage I cancers to 95.3% for stage IV cancers, the note said.
