Insights into Larian Studios’ Canceled Projects and Future Game Mechanics

Larian Studios founder Sven Vincke told Eurogamer that the studio had to cancel several projects, including the spin-off Divinity: Original Sin 2, which went pretty far before being scrapped. The spin-off was codenamed Soul for Frost Island and was “Divinity: Original Sin 2 with new mechanics and its own story”. Vincke didn’t elaborate on what the mechanic was, as they’re going to use it again in the future. He also noted that the project was canceled in favor of “something else.” The tactical role-playing game Divinity: Fallen Heroes, which was planned to be released back in 2019, but was postponed indefinitely, will not get to the release either. As a result, according to the head of Larian, nothing came of the project and it was canceled completely. Vincke added that it is very difficult for one team to work on several projects at the same time. Due to a bad experience, the studio will now be more cautious about the announcement of new games. Larian’s main focus right now is on Baldur’s Gate 3, which launches on PC on August 3 and arrives on PlayStation 5 on September 6.
