Marrakech – The message addressed by HM King Mohammed VI to the participants of the Parliamentary Conference on interfaith dialogue is intended for the whole world and not only for parliamentarians, affirmed the director general of the Islamic World Organization for Education, the Science and Culture (ICESCO), Salim M. Al Malik.

In a statement to MAP, on the sidelines of the work of the Conference, organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, Mr. Al Malik indicated that this international meeting is inspired by the Royal Message which contains a set of proposals that can be adopted as part of the recommendations of this meeting.

The Royal Message affirms that religion is a bulwark against extremism and not a casus-belli, he pointed out, stressing that it is the responsibility of parliaments, religious institutions, intellectual elites, governments , civil society and the media, to establish a productive dialogue between religions and civilizations and respond to the challenges that threaten the future of the planet and the fate of coexistence.

Mr. Al Malik also praised the various messages contained in the royal text, in particular the affirmation of the Kingdom as a country of coexistence.

Morocco “must be considered as such by the world, because the Kingdom includes all religions within it, from Islam to Christianity via Judaism”, noted the DG of ICESCO, also welcoming of HM the King’s approach in His speeches, which are addressed to the international community and not only to the regional community.

The inaugural session of this conference was marked by a Message addressed by HM the King to the participants, which was read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami.

Interfaith dialogue, driven by the desire to promote constructive interaction, unanimous understanding and fruitful cooperation between different beliefs, will be an essential lever that will help preserve humanity from the torments of suffering and division, said, Tuesday, HM King Mohammed VI.

HM the King stressed that this objective can only be achieved “if we walk the talk; this is one of the major challenges of your conference”.

Organized by the IPU with the Parliament of Morocco, in partnership with “Religions for Peace” and with the support of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the Rabita Mohammadia des Ouléma, this conclave was attended by parliamentarians, religious leaders, representatives of civil society who will engage in constructive dialogue and exchange best practices to resolve the main problems hindering sustainable coexistence.

This international conference reflects the important and multiple roles played by the national legislative institution, which is inspired by the millennial history of the Kingdom, rich in key episodes and strong examples of religious tolerance and coexistence.
