Prices for international air travel are increasing massively

Finally overcome the pandemic, head for distant destinations again on vacation – this is certainly what many Germans long for the coming summer. However, it is likely to cost many more, at least if the plane is the means of transport of choice.
Those who travel by plane on holiday this year usually have to pay significantly more than last year. On average, tickets for return flights to the 30 most popular destinations this summer vacation cost 17 percent more than in 2022. This is the result of an evaluation of the flights booked via the comparison portal Check24, which is available to the newspapers of the Funke media group.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey or overseas – prices have risen to almost all destinations. The biggest price increase is on flights to Bangkok. The tickets to the Thai capital have increased in price by an average of 52.6 percent from 718 euros to 1096 euros. According to the evaluation, there is only one travel destination that is cheaper this year: According to Check24, ticket prices to Las Vegas have fallen by 6.1 percent to 718 euros.
The prices after Rome have risen significantly by 44.2 percent to 235 euros, after Barcelona by 38.7 percent to 258 euros. Friends of Portugal now have to pay 341 euros for flights to Lisbon, 27.2 percent more than in the previous year, and tickets to Faro now cost 10.5 percent more at 348 euros. Trips to Greece also increased by 24.2 percent to Athens to EUR 349 and by 22.5 percent to Crete to EUR 419. Flights to Istanbul are 10.1 percent more expensive at 383 euros.
“The increased prices for flight tickets are due to higher demand and increased operating costs of the airlines,” says Christian Meier, Flight Managing Director at Check24. In order to still get cheap flight tickets, travelers should choose flexible vacation dates, compare prices, consider multiple departure airports and book early.
