This Sunday, May 8, M6 broadcast an unpublished number of “Forbidden Zone”, centered on the Paris Fair. Faced with repeated discounts from sellers, Internet users were outraged and cried scam.

May 8 is a symbolic day for the world, and especially for France. This date commemorates Germany’s surrender in World War II. On the morning of this Sunday, May 8, Emmanuel Macroninvested the day before for a new mandate, presided over a ceremony rich in emotions and marked by the war in Ukraine. After two years punctuated by the coronavirus pandemic, the public was finally allowed to attend this ceremony, and many people had made the trip. If the French took advantage of the rest of their Sunday, a large part of them found themselves in front of their screen at the end of the day.

The inhabitants of France are finally finding a semblance of normality and life before Covid. If they were able to go to the Arc de Triomphe, they also had the joy of returning to the Paris Fair this year. This Sunday, May 8, M6 broadcast a new number from “Forbidden Zone” presented by Ophélie Meunier. On the program, the return of the Paris Fair to the Porte de Versailles exhibition center, which takes place from April 28 to May 9. The teams of the sixth chain therefore followed exhibitors, sellers, but also customers, delighted to return.

A scam for Internet users

Every year, thousands of people take part in order to discover innovative products… And some also think of doing business there. This was the case of a couple with “modest” incomes, as announced by the voiceover. At the very beginning of the show, these customers were looking for a pergola. When they arrived at the stand, they were seduced by a product whose price was displayed at 28,000 euros. An almost indecent sum, which made them wince. And finally, faced with the couple’s perplexed attitude, the salesman did “the boss’s trick”. So the manager came and offered a discount to charm the customers. The price thus went from 28,000 euros to 23,000 euros in a few minutes… Finally, by offering another alternative, the price once again fell by 3,000 euros. Faced with all these successive reductions, in less than 30 minutes, the final sum was 20,000 euros. A proposal that was accepted by both buyers.

8,000 euros off…

And while a deposit of 6,000 euros had to be paid, which is almost impossible with most bank cards which have a ceiling, the boss agreed to modify this condition. By paying only 2,000 euros, they were able to reserve and order their new pergola. Faced with all these tricks and “manipulations”, Internet users remained shocked. For them, the sellers of the fairs take people for “pigeons”, And they are convinced that the prices were inflated to begin with.

“A downward spiral”

For Twitterers, some sellers are so “convincing”, “manipulative” and “insistent”, that they even evoke a downward spiral as soon as potential buyers speak to them. A netizen has meanwhile compared some salespeople to “unscrupulous predators”.

Watching this new report from “Forbidden Zone”, where prices are around 15,000 or 20,000 euros, for spas, pergolas, and the like, some Twitter followers wondered if they lived in the same world as the customers interviewed. For them, these prices are exorbitant and do not represent reality, while the purchasing power of the French is in everyone’s mind.
