Apple released iOS 27.2 for compatible iPhones, featuring fixes for over 160 security vulnerabilities and new features for Siri, Messages, Photos, and other apps, as reported.
Software Architecture Fixes for 160 Security Vulnerabilities
The core of the iOS 27.2 update targets underlying system permissions and data isolation across multiple subsystems, including Accounts, App Intents, Photos, Contacts, Calendar, Maps, Shortcuts, and Siri. The patches close off vectors that could allow unauthorized applications to read private user files or query installed software inventories without user consent.
Additional engineering fixes secure the Hide My Email utility, preventing scenarios where an original user address could be exposed despite the privacy shield being active. The operating system now enforces strict runtime checks to block unauthorized calls to the device camera and Bluetooth hardware layers.
Memory safety improvements address multiple vulnerabilities that could otherwise trigger denial-of-service conditions, unexpected process terminations, or arbitrary code execution. Apple confirmed that none of the 160-plus vulnerabilities patched in this build were actively exploited in the wild prior to the software drop.
Siri Integrates More App Data and Adds Languages
The update upgrades Siri’s local and cloud processing capabilities, enabling the assistant to maintain conversational context by pulling data from recent Messages attachments, Calendar event participants, and voicemail transcriptions. Safari history and Reading List parameters are now integrated into the assistant’s context window.
Users can select and copy individual segments of a Siri text output directly from the interface. A revised permissions menu centralizes app-level access controls for Siri, Search, and proactive suggestions.
Siri AI language support now encompasses French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. However, hardware and regional restrictions remain in place: the feature requires an iPhone 15 Pro or a newer generation device and is unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.
Messages Adds Contextual Suggestions While Other Apps Update
Messages gains contextual suggestions driven by on-device parsing, allowing the software to surface package tracking info or prompt users to add dinner invites directly to their calendars. Granular toggles let users isolate which system services—including Reminders, Notes, Maps, and Flights and Packages—can feed data into these suggestions.
Apple Music features a redesigned black-and-white application icon, swapping out the previous red aesthetic. The Photos app introduces inline caption editing for Shared Albums, duplicate detection algorithms, and expiration warnings for temporary collections.
Podcasts now splits the Home tab into distinct New Episodes and Continue Playing feeds. The Apple TV application brings multi-user profile creation to iPhone and iPad, alongside child profile controls.
FaceTime group calls on supported hardware now feature Dual Capture, allowing simultaneous video streams from both the front and rear cameras. Users can also bridge third-party sign language interpreters or live captioners directly into an active call stream. The Apple TV app introduces Multiview for monitoring up to four live sports feeds concurrently.
Shortcuts adds automation triggers tied to the physical state of the iPhone Duo. The operating system incorporates SynthID cryptographic watermarking for images generated via Image Playground and select edits performed within Photos.
