iPhone Lockdown Mode will also come to watchOS 10

As we pointed out last week, Apple will take the Lock Mode (Lockdown Mode), feature originally introduced with iOS 16 and macOS Ventura 13, while Apple Watch com watchOS 10. That way, when you enable Lockdown Mode on your iPhone (running iOS 17), the feature will also be enabled on your paired watch.

While it can be used by anyone, the functionality was developed for individuals such as activists and journalists, targets of cyberattacks (such as those carried out with the Pegasus spyware), in order to severely restrict the device’s functions for maximum protection.

More precisely, enabling the feature implies the following limitations:

  • Messages: Most message attachments are blocked and some features are unavailable.
  • FaceTime: Incoming FaceTime calls from people you haven’t previously called are blocked.
  • web browsing: Some web technologies and browsing features are blocked.
  • Shared Albums: Shared albums are removed from the Photos app and new invites from shared albums will be blocked.
  • connections to devices: Wired connections to another device or accessory are blocked while iPhone is locked.
  • Apple services: Invitations to Apple services received from people you haven’t previously invited will be blocked.

In addition to the above measures, Apple also announced that it will expand Lockdown Mode protections to cover “more secure wireless connectivity standards, media handling and sharing, and network security optimizations,” changes that are sure to arrive with future systems. .

It’s worth noting that Lockdown Mode on Apple Watch isn’t the only new feature watchOS 10 will include. It will also bring interactive widgets and complications, new watch faces, revamped native app interfaces, and much more.

iOS 17 and watchOS 10 (as well as other systems) are currently in the first test version. They will roll out to all users by September/October.
