The victim, a burglar, entered the convenience store on Saturday around 1:30 a.m. She was surprised by the manager who would then have fatally stabbed her.
The manager will appear before the Council Chamber on Tuesday.
This Saturday evening, our colleagues from Laatste Nieuws were able to obtain the interview of a close friend of the manager. He was able to see the images from the surveillance cameras at the time of the events. “The intruder was probably expecting an empty store where he could easily steal the money. But despite the late hour, H. (the manager, Editor’s note) was always present and busy working,” he says.
“He had to defend himself for his own life”
He then describes what happened: a man who goes directly to the top floor with a bag and a “shiny object in his hand, probably a screwdriver”. According to him, the manager then immediately received a violent blow to the head from the “shiny object”. “Then the burglar quickly ran back down the stairs. My friend chased after him, despite the blow he received in the head. »
The man will never be able to leave the store. “Camera footage shows him pushing against the broken front door, but it was already too twisted to open smoothly. So he locked himself in… And then it went quickly: H. caught up with the intruder at the door, and there things got out of hand. They were both trapped like rats by that broken door. It was H. or the odd one out. »
The confrontation takes place: the intruder hits the manager twice before trying to escape. The manager reacts with the object he holds in his hand: a knife. He first touches the burglar at the top of the leg. Touched, the latter continues his attempt to escape before being struck again. The manager receives a new blow and the intruder tries again to flee before stumbling.
“Where this knife came from is not entirely clear to me. But in this supermarket there is also a butcher section, near the offices when you get off. My friend probably grabbed “something” in a rush to defend himself. Because I insist it is about defense. H. has a good background. He would never get into a fight on his own initiative. But last night he had to defend himself. Defend yourself for your own life…”, concludes the friend.
