Turin DIA Strips €2 Million Empire from Alessandria Crime Figure
State authorities have seized a €2 million portfolio of properties, corporate assets, and financial holdings belonging to an Alessandria resident linked to the ’Ndrangheta. The confiscation order, executed by the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate (DIA) of Turin and the Anti-Crime Division of the Alessandria Police Headquarters, targets an individual with a criminal history spanning extortion, drug trafficking, money laundering, and illegal carrying of weapons.
Uncovering the Front Companies and Hidden Wealth
Investigators initiated the asset seizure after identifying a glaring disproportion between the suspect’s declared income and his actual accumulated wealth. Financial forensics revealed that the individual allegedly hid ownership of the assets through a system of registrations through which part of the assets were formally attributed to other people.
The target’s wife, son, and two other individuals with prior convictions are currently under investigation for allegedly holding these assets fictitiously.
Piedmont’s Legal Economy Under ’Ndrangheta Infiltration
While the assets total approximately €2 million across real estate, business entities, and liquid funds, authorities have not yet released specific details regarding the exact nature or location of the commercial enterprises involved.
The measure underscores how organized crime syndicates continue to embed themselves within northern Italy’s legal economy through proxy ownership and strategic real estate acquisitions.
Mandatory Residency and Strict Special Supervision
In addition to seizing the million-euro estate, the Turin Court slapped the suspect with a four-year mandatory residency order under special supervision.
Italian anti-mafia legislation permits these preventive asset measures without requiring a final criminal conviction for a specific offense. Instead, the legal threshold relies on establishing social dangerousness and proving that an individual’s accumulated wealth lacks justification through lawful earnings.
Targeting Illicit Capital Flows Over Penal Enforcement
This joint operation by the DIA and police highlights the state’s ongoing strategy of tracking illicit capital flows rather than relying solely on traditional penal enforcement.
By dismantling the financial infrastructure of organized crime in Piedmont, authorities aim to sever the pipeline connecting criminal syndicates to northern commercial markets.
