Ridoan Oudaha, a 43-year-old man, was sentenced Tuesday before the West Flanders Assize Court to 29 years in prison for the murder of his former partner, Jill Himpte. The victim, aged 36 at the time of the events, had his throat slit on November 5, 2019. The public prosecutor had requested life imprisonment and a release to the court for the enforcement of sentences for a period of ten years.
After a relationship that lasted 12 years, Ridoan Oudaha and Jill Himpe separated in August 2019. According to the victim’s family, the latter was terrified of her jealous ex-boyfriend. The ex-lovers, however, kept in touch over the following months. On November 5, Jill Himpe had to go to Amsterdam for work. The accused took her by car to a carpool parking lot in Gentbrugge.
In the vehicle, however, the situation quickly escalated. Under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, Ridoan allegedly demanded the PIN of Jill’s phone. He would have tied his wrists at Lauwe. Things eventually escalated along the Moeskroensesteenweg in Aalbeke, when the victim tried to run away. The accused forced her back into the car before slitting her throat and leaving her body at her mother’s house in Wevelgem.
During the investigation, the accused claimed that the injury was accidental. Friday, in court, he finally admitted to having deliberately ended the victim’s life, but continued to contest premeditation. The jury and the court took into account some mitigating circumstances and the exceeding of the reasonable time.
