Several buildings in the Jemeppe 2000 zoning, located in Jemeppe-sur-Sambre (province of Namur), are flooded following the heavy rains which affected the area on Monday, indicates the Val de Sambre emergency zone. “The pipes are blocked at the zoning level, which encourages the accumulation of water“, explained Marc Gilbert, commander of the area.

In addition, a 1,200 square meter building housing goods was heavily affected. Pumping operations are underway.“Firefighters are also working in the rest of the area. Several rivers have burst their banks, notably in Fosses-la-Ville and Vitrival. Sandbags have been distributed preventively and cleaning operations roads are in progress.

In Floreffe, a tree also fell on electrical wires due to strong gusts of wind. “We have planned staffing accordingly and our teams are ready to intervene if the situation continues to deteriorate. However, our forecast indicates that the bad weather should calm down in the coming hours“, wanted to reassure Marc Gilbert.
