Actress Jennifer Lawrence reflected on her 2013 Oscars fashion choices in an Allure video interview published on October 27, 2026, admitting regret over the white strapless Dior Couture gown by Raf Simons she wore while winning Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook.
Looking back at the moment more than a decade later, the 36-year-old actress dissected the memorable fashion choices. She noted that she wished she had lifted the voluminous white gown while climbing stairs and prepared an acceptance speech instead of giving in to superstition. Discussing her mindset at the time, she noted, I was clearly looking at dresses going, ‘More, more, more, more!’
She also explained her hairstyle choice for the event, remarking, You got to put your hair back if you’ve got a huge, you know, bottom. Bottom of the dress. So I’m happy we went with, like, loose back.
Looking at her past self in the footage, she added, Maybe those will come back. But look at her. She’s so tired and happy.
A Decade of Fashion Regrets
The actress wasn’t so sure about her jewelry choice, however. I don’t know about the backwards necklace,
she remarked, describing the garment itself by stating, Well, it was a wedding dress.
The Infamous Stage Fall
The outfit choice directly contributed to her infamous trip up the stairs as she went to accept her award.
Lawrence previously shared on Heather McMahan’s Absolutely Not podcast in 2020 that the fall wiped her mind completely blank and remained a sensitive subject for years. And then I fell, and it erased everything from my mind. My full brain went blank. She further noted of her superstitious mindset at the time, I was ready for it.
I was very nervous and also very superstitious.
I didn’t want to write down a speech.
Media Scrutiny and Public Embarrassment
During that same 2020 podcast appearance, Lawrence revealed that news anchor Anderson Cooper added to her distress by suggesting on CNN days later that she had faked the fall, a comment she called devastating. Explaining the impact of the broadcast, she stated, Well she obviously faked the fall,
noting that the remark made her feel that it was so devastating because it was this horrific humiliation to me.
She added, I don’t know if I’ll ever have a chance to give a speech like that again, so it didn’t feel good for me not to have a speech.
Advice to Her Younger Self
Reflecting on what advice she would give her 22-year-old self, Lawrence offered practical words: lift up the dress when walking up the stairs and remember to thank the director.

Looking back from 2026, the actress recognized that belief as a mistake she now regrets, stating she would tell her younger self, That’s not true. And you’ll regret it.
