Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are engaged – again!
Lopez, 52, announced the engagement in a short video posted to her website on Friday, in which she gazed adoringly at a green-colored diamond ring.
“I have a really exciting and special story to share,” Lopez said in a teaser video posted to Facebook earlier in the evening.
According to sources close to the singer, the video is actually an engagement announcement.
Lopez and Affleck, 49, sparked engagement rumors earlier this week when she was pictured wearing a ring on her wedding finger while shopping in Los Angeles.
Insiders close to Affleck recently told Page Six that they wouldn’t be shocked if he proposed again.
The couple started dating in 2002 and were quickly dubbed “Bennifer” by fans and the media. The two certainly weren’t shy about showing their love for each other back in the day, including in PDA-filled scenes from Lopez’s “Jenny From the Block” music video.
In November of that year, Affleck offered Lopez a 6.1-carat pink diamond from Harry Winston. The massive sparkler reportedly cost $2.5 million.
Lopez reminisced about her initial engagement while meeting Diane Sawyer in the 2000s, where she described her fiancé as “brilliantly intelligent, loving, charming and affectionate.”
She went on to call her stunning ring “the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen”.
Unfortunately, massive media attention led the couple to postpone and ultimately cancel their 2003 nuptials.
“Due to excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to reschedule the date,” the couple said in a joint statement. “When we found ourselves seriously considering hiring three separate ‘decoy wives’ in three different locations, we realized something was wrong.”
The statement continued: “We began to feel that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives might be compromised. We felt that what should have been a joyous and sacred day could be ruined for us, our families and our friends.
Lopez called off the engagement in early 2004 and was married to singer Marc Anthony in June of that year. The couple then had twins Max and Emme in 2008.
Meanwhile, Affleck continued with Jennifer Garner. He married the actress in 2005 and has three children together: daughters Violet and Seraphina, and son Samuel.
However, both of their marriages ended in divorce, with Lopez entering another whirlwind romance with Alex Rodriguez in 2017.
For his part, Affleck was linked to a number of women, including ‘Knives Out’ star Ana De Armas until their split in January 2021.
Shortly after Lopez split from A-Rod, Affleck quickly stepped in and reconnected with the singer. The pair – who just lost $50million on a Bel Air mansion – have gone from strength to strength ever since.
“I don’t think anyone was more surprised than us,” the ‘Marry Me’ star admitted on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in February. “You could never have imagined that something like this could happen. It’s a beautiful thing.
