“The turquoise-green federal government continues to let the Austrians down – even in times of rising prices and rising inflation. While Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig has already announced that he will suspend rent adjustments in municipal housing in Vienna for two years, Turquoise-Green remains inactive in the federal government. The committee in which the rent cap for Austrians has to be decided has not met yet – the ORF also reported this today in the program ‘Hohes Haus’,” continued Taucher.

Taucher calls on the federal government to follow Vienna’s example and implement the Vienna model throughout Austria.
“Vienna is leading the way and stands shoulder to shoulder with the Viennese. By suspending rent adjustments for the next two years, as Mayor Michael Ludwig announced, we are supporting those who are particularly suffering from price increases and inflation. The increase in housing allowances, as announced by Vice Mayor and Housing Councilor Kathrin Gaal, has already been decided and implemented. The housing allowance budget was increased from around 60 million euros to around 151 million euros. With these important measures we are supporting people in these challenging times,” said the SPÖ club chairman.

“Nobody is left in the lurch in Vienna. We are resolutely continuing on the Viennese path. Mayor Michael Ludwig and his team stand side by side with the Viennese,” said Taucher in conclusion.
