Glenn Gary Cameron, a 62-year-old funeral director known as the Moore Park Rapist, faced skepticism from NSW District Court Judge John Pickering on Monday after his lawyer argued that a troubled childhood and a chronic adjustment disorder mitigated his culpability for a series of violent, premeditated sexual assaults against eight women between 1991 and 1993.
Challenging Mitigation Arguments in Court
The sentencing hearing in Sydney brought forward arguments regarding Cameron’s background, including being orphaned at age six and enduring serious childhood abuse. His defense counsel told the court that these early experiences led to him becoming an angry and defiant teenager who abused substances and lived as a loner. She also pointed to a recent diagnosis of a stress-related mental health disorder.

Judge Pickering questioned how those factors reduced Cameron’s moral responsibility for premeditated attacks carried out at knifepoint in Moore Park and Sydney’s inner west. The judge noted that a chronic adjustment disorder merely describes a person’s life state at a given time without automatically lowering culpability for calculated violence.
During the attacks, court documents revealed Cameron told one victim, If you don’t let me do this, I will kill you.
Addressing the defense submission that the power derived from the assaults stemmed from his upbringing, Judge Pickering called it an extreme position, adding, Thank God he’s only one of the very few men who has that feeling within him.
Decades-Long Evasion and Modern DNA Link
Following the 1991–1993 assaults, Cameron blended back into society, relocating to South Australia and raising a family before eventually moving to Alice Springs.
A revived police investigation in the 2020s linked four of the sexual assaults to a single male DNA profile and a familial match. Law enforcement officers ultimately unmasked Cameron through a stealth operation in 2024, swiping his glass and fork at an airport for DNA analysis.
Arrested in February 2024, Cameron pleaded guilty to 13 charges. An additional 14 charges are being taken into consideration for his upcoming sentencing. Prosecutors withdrew nine other charges—including robbery and accusations that he struck victims in the head and face—in September 2025.
Courtroom Remorse and Unanswered Closure
In a letter read aloud to the court, Cameron expressed remorse, stating that he had carried the guilt of his crimes for more than 30 years. I wish I could explain my actions … to bring some closure to the pain but I really can’t,
the letter stated. If anyone said I was a good man, I knew deep down I wasn’t.
