The patience of Alain Rooms, a resident of Pittem, in West Flanders, has limits. This weekend, he got tired of waiting for the trial of the man who knocked down his 7-year-old daughter while he was under the influence of alcohol on August 15.
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the investigation will have to determine if it was chance that caused this meeting, the two men met in the middle of the street. The 34-year-old father lost his temper and beat up the driver, who was drunk the night of the accident and had fled. But this time, it was Alain who was under the influence of alcohol and, as our colleagues from Laatste Nieuws explain, he was not kind to the suspect. He broke his jaw and cheekbone. Alain was arrested a few hours later by the police.

Alain’s wife had broken her arm in the shock. Their 7-year-old daughter had been thrown several meters and suffered from a concussion. She was also injured all over her body. The driver had fled. Alain had managed to take his plate number and had quickly discovered that it was one of his neighbours.
After posting his identity on Facebook, he therefore decided to take revenge this weekend. He is not proud of his gesture, according to Het Laatste Nieuws, but refused to speak. “We understand this father’s anger, but let justice do its job,” police said after the first incident.
Alain was released but will also be tried.
