Justin Herbert doubtful for game against Jacksonville Jaguars

In addition to the quarterback, the Los Angeles Chargers have other starters in cottons for the game against the Jaguars

COSTA MESA, Calif. — The quarterback Justin Herbert is among several holders of Los Angeles Chargers whose readiness to confront week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars it is uncertain.

Justin Herbertwho is eight days away from suffering a broken rib cartilage, did not practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.

“It’s day to day, just waiting to see how he feels”, resigned the coach of the Chargers, Brandon Staley. “We’re going to progress through the rest of this week and see how it goes.”

Justin Herbertspeaking to reporters for the first time since suffering the knock in a 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefsnoted that his ribs “feel good.”

“There have definitely been improvements. I think the most important thing is to be ready for Sunday and give your best, whatever it is.”

And Jutin Herbert can’t play, veteran Chase Daniel will take control.

The receptor Keenan Allenwho was inactive in the Week 2 due to a hamstring injury, tight end Donald Parham Jr.also dealing with a hamstring problem, and right tackle Trey Pipkins III, with a foot injury, they are all in doubt.

Staley said Allen, after missing practice Friday, was “50-50” for the game.

“We wanted to make sure we give him a day off and then see how he is in the next 48 hours,” he explained. Brandon Staley.

The center Corey Linsley, deals with a knee problem, and the cornerback J.C. Jacksonwho did not train all week after playing in the Week 2 for an ankle that underwent surgery last month, are in doubt.

“We really wanted to use this bye week,” Staley wrote of Jackson. “We just want to make sure, long term, that this guy is ready to play. As you guys have seen, there hasn’t been a setback, per se.”

Justin Hebert he participated in practices on a limited basis earlier in the week. On Thursday she had routine passing drills when practice was open to reporters.

“He did what he normally does because we wanted to make sure we saw him make the passes that he would have to make in the game,” Staley said. “He looked good. He’s tough. He’s not feeling great by any means, but he was able to go out there and shoot the ball.”

Herbert said it would be normal to wear rib protection in a game and expressed no concern that it would affect his shooting ability if additional protection was added for Sunday.

“That’s an area on the quarterback that generally doesn’t have much of an impact on the throwing motion. Whatever it adds or takes away from, I think that’s a normal motion for the quarterback,” he said. Justin Herbert.

Justin took over as head of the Chargers under unusual circumstances as a rookie in 2020, when just minutes before the start of the week 2 it was determined that the then incumbent Tyrod Taylor he was unable to play after suffering a punctured lung when a team doctor, who is also now caring for Herbert, attempted to administer a painkilling injection to help the quarterback’s broken ribs.

That doctor is sued for medical malpractice for Tyrod Taylorwho is seeking at least $5 million, according to copies of the original lawsuit and subsequent documents related to the case obtained by ESPN.

When asked about possible treatment options and how much he considered Taylor’s circumstances, Herbert simply separated the cases, “every situation is different,” he said.

“You have to take a look at what’s best for you. I’m certainly going to do everything I can to prepare and be ready to play on Sunday. At the same time, it’s important to rest, relax and get everything ready.”

Justin Herbert he has never missed a game start since taking over from Taylor. The Chargers are 1-1 and Herbert has thrown for 613 yards and six touchdowns with one interception.
