Patrick Mahomes, der Quarterback

The Kansas City Chiefs is all about one thing: Quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs quarterback is the heart and brain of the club. Mahomes led the Chiefs to their second NFL championship after 1970 in 2020 and then to the Super Bowl again a year later.

“Magic Mahomes” can do everything that characterizes an NFL Quarterback 2022: anticipate quickly, throw far and precisely – even from the most unlikely angles and positions – and he is also very quick with his legs, which is why he can always provide touchdowns himself.

He’s been there since 2017 when he was picked #10 in Round 1 of the NFL Draft by the KC Chiefs.

Mahomes didn’t make his NFL debut until a season after signing the Chiefs contract.

In the first three games of the season, Mahomes led the Chiefs to three wins and set several highs, including records for most touchdown passes in the first two (10) and first three games of the season (13).

On Game Day 2, Mahomes became the youngest quarterback to throw six touchdown passes in a game at age 22 years and 364 days against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mahomes’ record hunt continued in the months and years that followed. Ultimately, he led the Kansas City Chiefs to the Super Bowl in 2020 – for the second time since 1970.

The history of the Kansas City Chiefs

Today’s Kansas City Chiefs were founded in 1969 as the Dallas Texans in the American Football League (AFL), the NFL’s rival league at the time.

When the AFL began operations, there was no professional team west of the Mississippi River and south of Washington, DC, with the exception of the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers

However, the NFL decided for the 1960 season to found the Dallas Cowboys and came before the young AFL. As a result, the Texans looked for a new market and have made Kansas City their home ever since.

Initially, the new franchise was going to be called the Kansas City Texans, even though Kansas City isn’t in Texas, but due to local opposition, the Kansas City Chiefs name caught on.

The name “Chief” goes back to Kansas City businessman and Boy Scout H. Roe Bartle, who was fascinated by the wisdom of Native American chiefs. The Chiefs fans call themselves Chiefs Nation ( German Nation of Chiefs ), and the stadium is called accordingly Arrowhead Stadium ( German: Stadium of the Arrowhead ).

Despite the signing of quarterback star Joe Montana, the Chiefs were consistently strong in the regular season but notoriously weak in the playoffs throughout the 1990s.

In the 2000s, the Chiefs were league mediocrity at best, making the playoffs sporadically.

Only when head coach Andy Reid was hired did the team from Missouri start to pick up again. They have won their AFC-West division every time since 2016.

Patrick Mahomes draft made the Chiefs one of the top NFL teams in 2018. Climax: The 2020 Super Bowl triumph.
