In the Kanto region, the southerly wind strengthened today on the 7th, and central Tokyo and other areas experienced record heat for November. Tomorrow, the 8th, the northerly wind will be a little stronger, and the unusual heat will subside. After the rain on Friday the 10th, cold air moved south and temperatures plummeted. The maximum temperature will be below normal, and it will suddenly become a cold winter.

Record heat for November

Today, the 7th, the southerly wind strengthened, and the Kanto region, mainly in the southern part, experienced record high temperatures for November. The maximum temperature was 27.5℃ in central Tokyo, 27.3℃ in Yokohama City, and 27.5℃ in Chiba City, all the highest temperatures for November since statistics began. In addition, temperatures in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, reached 28.1 degrees Celsius, setting new records for November temperatures in some places.

The wind has shifted from the inland to the north, and will also blow from the north tonight along the coast. Even in places that have reached record high temperatures, it looks like the nights will gradually become cooler.

The heat will subside tomorrow, the 8th.

Tomorrow, the 8th, the Kanto region will be mostly sunny with plenty of sunshine.

The wind is blowing widely from the north, and it is likely to be rather strong mainly in the coastal areas. The air will be replaced and the maximum temperature will be around 22℃ in many places. The unusual heat seems to be coming to an end.

After rain on the 10th (Friday), cold air moves south and temperatures plummet

On Friday the 10th, there will be widespread rain in the Kanto region due to the influence of a front and low pressure. There is a risk that the rain will become stronger and the amount of rainfall will increase, especially in coastal areas.

After this rain, cold air will move in. From the 11th (Saturday) onwards, cold air with temperatures below 0°C will flow into the Kanto region at an altitude of 1,500 meters, and snow is likely to fall in the northern mountains. Vehicles crossing mountain passes should be equipped with winter equipment and be aware of changes in road conditions. Clouds will likely spread over the plains as well. The maximum temperature will be below average, and the daytime will likely be winter-like. You’ll probably need a thick jacket. From the 12th (Sunday) onwards, the number of days where the minimum temperature will drop below 10℃ will increase, and it looks like it’s going to get really cold. There are some places, especially in the northern Kanto region, where it gets so cold that you may want to turn on the heating in the morning and evening.

From now on, the season is rapidly progressing. Please dress appropriately to keep yourself in shape.

Temperature and clothing guidelines

The diagram above is a guideline for temperature and clothing. This is just a guideline, as people experience heat and cold differently, so please use this as a reference when choosing clothing.

① 25℃ or higher
I get sweaty after walking a little, so short sleeves are perfect.
② If the temperature is 20℃ or more and less than 25℃
The temperature is comfortable for many people, and you can comfortably wear just a long-sleeved shirt.
③ 15℃ or more and less than 20℃
The air will start to feel cool, and you’ll need to wear layers, such as wearing a long-sleeved shirt and a knit cardigan.
④ 10℃ or more and less than 15℃
When the temperature drops below 15°C, thicker items such as sweaters will come in handy, and outerwear such as trench coats will be necessary.
⑤ 5℃ or more and less than 10℃
Now that the weather is really cold, it’s time for a winter coat. You need to take precautions against the cold by wearing a sweater under your coat.
⑥ Less than 5℃
Due to the severe cold, thorough measures against the cold are required. Protect yourself from the cold by wearing a down coat, muffler, and gloves.

The appropriate clothing will change depending on the time of day you go out, so please refer to the clothing index.
