The head of the Lebanese Kataeb Party, Representative Sami Gemayel, affirmed, in an interview with Radio Monte Carlo International, his keenness on relations with the French administration, which is keen on Lebanon, appreciating the initiatives aimed at electing a president, but not at the expense of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the decision of the free Lebanese. “Handing over the presidency to Hezbollah’s allies as a condition for electing a president is submission to the blackmail of Hezbollah, which is trying to impose its will on the rest of the Lebanese by force of obstruction and regional and international pressures.”

He said, “It is important for us to communicate our point of view to all decision-making countries in the region and the world in defense of Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence, to restore its economic capabilities, and for the Lebanese to live in peace and prosperity in their country as they used to, and for Lebanon to return as the beacon of the East.”

And whether there is a settlement to be prepared for, the head of the Brigades indicated that “there is a group of ideas being put forward to lift the siege on the elections.”

Regarding what is said about names in the proposed equations, he replied: “No clear names were put forward by the French, and we affirm our rejection of these equations because the President of the Republic cannot be dismissed or no confidence withdrawn from him during his term, whatever the balances. As for the prime minister, he can be dismissed after he forms the government, Therefore, any promises to establish balances are illogical, and what is required is that the President of the Republic be the trustee of the constitution and the country.

And about whether the Phalanges and Christian forces would boycott the election of a President of the Republic if a session was held to elect Franjieh, Gemayel pointed out that “the Phalanges Party is the first to take a public and clear position by seeking to disrupt any session through which Hezbollah tries to impose its candidate, whether Suleiman Franjieh or someone else.” His allies,” pointing out that “the problem lies in the political line, not in people. If Franjieh had declared his willingness to amend his political positions in support of Hezbollah and its control over the country, we would not have had a problem with him.”

Regarding the official introduction of the name of Representative Michel Moawad to the French side, the head of the Kataeb indicated that “the party voted for Moawad in the House of Representatives over more than ten sessions, which is clear and does not need explanation, and we are not in the process of the French choosing a president for the republic, rather they are With mediation, and our clear proposition was that it is not permissible for Hezbollah to force obstruction and regional and international pressures to impose its will on the Lebanese.

And he considered that “whoever dreams, through regional understandings, to bring us back to the time of Syrian tutelage, this matter is over, and we will not allow him to return, whatever the cost, and this is a red line, after we presented a large list of martyrs to liberate our country from tutelage, headed by my brother Pierre Gemayel and my companion MP Antoine Ghanem, in addition to To Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and a large number of friends such as Gebran Tueni, and this matter must be very clear, and from here we refuse to move from the tutelage of Hezbollah or Iran to the tutelage of Syria again.
