Kiftum had already taken an overwhelming first place at the 35km mark on this day and began a race against himself and time.

“I’m really happy,” Kiftum said in an interview with Archyde.com immediately after the game. “In fact, I did not think I would be able to set a new world record today,” he said, but was happy, saying, “I believed that one day I would become the world record holder.”
