DANIIL Medvedev was eliminated by Karen Khachanov in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters tournament on Wednesday (10/4) local time, with a score of 3-6 and 5-7.

Medvedev was awarded a point penalty at the start of the final game after arguing with referee Carlos Bernades. He then also became involved in a heated discussion with the tournament supervisor.

As reported by BetweenThe world number four was warned after slamming his racket when he double-faulted, leaving Khachanov just one game from victory.

Medvedev was annoyed because Khachanov’s forehand shot was not declared out in the rally which resulted in Khachanov getting two break points at 5-5.

The presence of a physiotherapist to treat what looked like bleeding in the next game made Medvedev even more upset. He then shouted at the referee, “Do I call a physiotherapist?”

Medvedev then requested the presence of a supervisor who would be responsible for those decisions.

Television replays showed the questionable punch from Khachanov landing wide of the pitch.

“This is the second day in a row. Come on guys, open your eyes. Do something. That’s out,” Medvedev said.

“Yesterday the ball was out, but it was called in. Who will take action. The ball is there. Who will be responsible?” he added.

Khachanov and Medvedev took turns breaking in the first four games of the match, before Khachanov took a 4-3 lead to win the first set.

In the second set, Khachanov saved a set point at 5-4 before Medvedev’s temper exploded in the next game, he failed to make both serves, and then lost.

Khachanov will face Alexander Zverev or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals which will be played on Friday (12/4). (Z-6)
