According to the state media, the annual party conference of the communist ruling party of head of state Kim Jong Un has started in North Korea. Opening the meeting, Kim said North Korea’s strength had “remarkably increased in all areas of politics, military, economy and culture,” according to a report by state news agency KCNA today.
According to KCNA, the party congress will review the implementation of political goals in the year that is coming to an end and discuss the budget for the coming year.
Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have risen sharply this year. North Korea has tested numerous weapons in recent months, and in November the country fired its most modern ICBM. Pyongyang also said it had developed new technology to use reconnaissance satellites to take pictures from space. On Stefanitag, several apparently North Korean drones also entered South Korean airspace, one of which even flew near the capital Seoul.
