The prosecutor’s office has transferred a criminal case to the Riga City Court in which a man is accused of kidnapping and repeatedly raping his ex-girlfriend, the prosecutor’s office reports.
As stated in the indictment, in the spring of 2023, a man, violating a court order prohibiting him from approaching his ex-girlfriend, came to her home, beat and raped her. The man then kidnapped the victim and took her by car to Lithuania, where he kept her in a hotel for two days, where he also raped the victim several times.
The victim managed to escape from captivity thanks to the hotel staff, to whom she reported her abduction when the man temporarily left.
The man is accused of committing a total of 21 criminal offenses against the woman.
The accused is currently in custody. If convicted, the man faces imprisonment for a term of four to 15 years.
During the pre-trial process, the defendant pleaded not guilty and stated that the incident was “just a family dispute.”
