Klopp hails Liverpool players’ calm after late win

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp praised his side’s calm in stoppage time as they beat stubborn Newcastle United 2-1 in a tense Premier League match on Wednesday.

Liverpool suffered after crushing Bournemouth with nine goals last Saturday, until substitute Fabio Carvalho hit the winning goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Klopp told BBS. T. Sport “It seems like the best way to win a game – to be honest, I don’t need it every week, but if you can do it once or twice that’s really good.

“I told the guys at half-time, even before we went 1-0 down, that we were a little desperate in some situations but when we had the ball off the ball quickly our risk immediately increased.

“We had to force ourselves to keep calm a little bit more and carry on, and in the end we did it?”

Klopp paid tribute to Carvalho, who turned 20 on Tuesday and made a great start since joining the club from Fulham last May.

“He is very important for us, and if he is as good as he is, he needs such (big) moments as well, and this goal obviously helps him,” said the 55-year-old.
