Kowloon Motor Bus plans to expand pet bus routes into remote areas

Kowloon Motor Bus Celebrates Two Years of Transit Innovation

Kowloon Motor Bus has marked the second anniversary of its pioneering pet bus service by hosting a vibrant anniversary party for owners and their animal companions. The milestone event highlights the ongoing expansion of a transport initiative that has steadily gained traction across the city since its launch.

Since its inception, the pet bus service has recorded more than 30,000 passenger trips involving both human commuters and their pets, according to transport figures released by the operator. Company executives say the strong public response, particularly along the Lantau route, has prompted planning for further network growth into more remote areas.

Weekend Festivities Bring Pet Owners Together

During the anniversary celebration at the weekend, owners and dogs gathered for a series of activities, including a running competition designed to let pets burn off energy. Participants shared lighthearted stories about their animals during the outdoor gathering, noting that cooler seasonal weather provided an ideal environment for the festivities.

Targeting Restricted Country Parks for Next Phase

Kowloon Motor Bus Commercial Director Ray Chan said the operator plans to increase service frequencies following the autumn transition, noting that the cooler months traditionally drive higher demand for outdoor travel. He confirmed that the company is currently examining potential route expansions to reach destinations that are traditionally difficult to access by public transport.

Executives indicated that future network studies will look specifically at opening up restricted zones and other outlying country park locations. Current services operate across weekdays as well as Saturdays and Sundays, accommodating all breeds of domestic pets under the existing operational framework.

Schedules Adjust Dynamically Based on Passenger Demand

The transport operator maintains that weekend and weekday schedules will continue to adjust dynamically based on passenger demand and seasonal recreation patterns.
