Australian surface brand Laminex has launched a nature-informed surface collection called the Colour Collection 2027, featuring six solid colors and four Australian Native Woodgrains designed by the Melbourne-established company to reflect landscapes ranging from the Victorian High Country to the Red Centre.
Ninety Years of Australian Surface Evolution
Established in Melbourne in 1934 by designer Bob Sykes, Laminex has spent over nine decades providing architectural and furniture surfaces tailored to local architectural trends.
What was once treated strictly through a functional lens is now paired alongside timber, stone, and other materials to define spatial character. The Laminex Colour Collection 2027 marks the latest phase in this long-running design evolution.
Ten New Decors Inspired by National Landscapes
The brand’s 2027 range introduces ten distinct decors that draw direct inspiration from expansive Australian environments. According to Laminex, these surfaces take their cues from the Victorian High Country, the Nullarbor, the Red Centre, and the native hardwood forests of Australia’s east coast.
The new line comprises four Australian Native Woodgrains and six solid colors. The solid color palette spans sandy neutrals and culminates in a rich red ochre. Cooler alpine hues sit alongside sun-warmed neutrals, pink-toned browns, and deeper earth tones, while the woodgrains bring the pattern, warmth, and character of native Australian timber to interior spaces.
Laminex noted that the collection captures the extraordinary tonal variation of the landscape without attempting a literal reproduction.
Australian Light Reveals Hidden Undertones in Laminex Surfaces
The surfaces are engineered to be combined across cabinetry, joinery, furniture, and larger architectural applications in residential and commercial projects. Designers can pair similarly hued surfaces to create low-contrast, calming spaces, or deploy contrasting tones together for a richer, more impactful aesthetic.
Laminex pointed out that intense Australian sunlight introduces an interactive dimension to the materials. The quality of local light reveals hidden undertones, amplifies warmer hues, and alters the relationship between color and grain as people move through a space throughout the day.
Additional coverage from Laminex outlines that the Colour Collection 2027 expands the brand’s existing catalog with a carefully selected range designed to elevate contemporary residential and commercial environments while balancing nuance, warmth, and depth.
