Phantom Blade Zero Demo Reaches Los Angeles
In late September, reviewers traveled to Los Angeles to test an advanced build of Phantom Blade Zero, an upcoming action RPG developed by S-GAME. PSX Brasil reported that the hands-on session covered the entire first chapter and multiple major bosses across six hours of gameplay on a PC build. The game launches on October 29 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
During a press conference and closed hands-on session held in Los Angeles at the end of September, Adrenaline was among a select group of about thirty international media outlets and influencers to test the title firsthand. Following the gameplay session, attendees participated in a press conference with game director Soulframe Liang and Head of Publishing Will Chen.
Soul Faces Sixty-Six Days to Live
Players control Soul, a master swordsman whose heart is pierced during a combat with a friend turned rival. A mysterious figure revives him, granting exactly sixty-six days of life to cure this condition. Soulframe Liang, creator of the game, explained to Adrenaline that the title “Zero” marks a deliberate transition for S-GAME. Soulframe Liang holds an eight-year background in architecture, consisting of five years at Tsinghua University and three years at Yale University.

Combat Mechanics Feature Thirty Unique Weapons
Combat in Phantom Blade Zero relies on simultaneous attack and defense mechanics inspired by yin and yang philosophies, avoiding traditional quick-time events entirely. MeuPlayStation noted that the game features thirty distinct weapons, each altering movement speeds, striking ranges, and animations. It was observed that enemies outside of major boss fights remain manageable, giving players room to explore branching paths and secondary areas that function with light metroidvania design.
Donnie Yen Supervises Stunt Work and Kung Fu Punk Aesthetics
S-GAME established an in-house motion capture studio in Shanghai utilizing over twenty martial arts stunt professionals to record authentic movements. Actor Donnie Yen supervised action direction, bringing authentic martial arts choreography to the project. Adrenaline detailed that standard combat animations require roughly one month of motion capture recording per weapon type.
Will Chen noted that Donnie Yen’s stunt team also worked with them in their studio in Budapest.
New Game Plus and the Sixty-Six Days Roguelike Challenge
Completing the primary campaign unlocks a New Game Plus mode alongside a specialized sixty-six days challenge mode. Adrenaline reported that this mode restricts players to sixty-six total deaths while retaining earned gear and levels from previous playthroughs, functioning similarly to a roguelike run across the game’s chapters.
