US police announced the arrest on Wednesday of a suspect in connection with the murder of a journalist in Las Vegas (western United States) and local media reported that it is a politician in heart of the reporter’s recent revelations. “The suspect in the September 2, 2022 homicide has been arrested,” a brief statement from Las Vegas police explained, without providing the suspect’s name or any additional details.

Investigative reporter Jeff German was working on a series of articles published by the Las Vegas Review-Journal focusing on allegations of wrongdoing against a public administrator in Clark County which includes Las Vegas, Robert Such, the newspaper explained. The man arrested is Mr. Telles, 45, the newspaper added, citing Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo. Clark County jail documents show the elected official is in custody for a murder investigation. Earlier Wednesday, local television KTNV reported a police search of the official’s home. Jeff German, 69, was found dead on Saturday outside his home. According to local media, he had been stabbed several times and the Las Vegas police had announced the opening of a homicide investigation. A few days later, police released footage of the prime suspect and a vehicle they believe is linked to the murder.
Death for the ongoing investigation
According to his newspaper, the journalist had been publishing articles for several months on the management of Mr. Telles in a local service responsible for managing the property of people who died without a will. He had reported complaints against him, in particular for harassment and favouritism. “The arrest of Robert Telles is both a huge relief and a scandal for the editorial staff of the Review-Journal,” said its editor, Glenn Cook, quoted by the press organ. “We are relieved that Telles is in custody and outraged that a colleague was apparently killed for investigating an elected official.”
Jeff German had recently requested access to records of communications between Mr. Telles and three other county officials, says the Review-Journal. Mr. Telles is due in court on Thursday afternoon, according to Clark County jail documents.
