Latvia has surpassed almost all of Europe in terms of Internet speed

Using Google Page Load Checker data, comparison service BusinessComparison looked at the average web page loading speed on both desktop and mobile devices for every European country. However, the Scandinavian countries clearly dominate the top half of the table. Plus Latvia.

Sweden ranks first with the fastest download speed (3.74 seconds), followed by Finland (3.84) in second place, the first country in the world to make Internet access a legal right in 2010.

Third place was shared by Denmark and Latvia, both with an average speed of 4 seconds.

Lithuania is in fifth place (4.14), followed by Switzerland (4.23).

When it comes to mobile loading speeds, Sweden again performs best with an average speed of 7.48 seconds.

At the bottom of the download ranking is Turkey (10.22), which is due to the country’s use of 30-year-old copper cables, the report said.

The last five of the ranking also include Bulgaria (9.38), Romania (8.59), Cyprus (7.18) and Poland (6.09).

The same countries – in the same order – also performed worst in terms of internet loading speeds on mobile devices, with Turkey again having the slowest loading time at 13.19 seconds.
