Alert in Lefkada for a boat sinking at noon on Saturday.
Specifically, at noon yesterday, the 1st Port Department of Nidri of the Port Authority of Lefkada was informed about the sinking of a yacht with the flag of Great Britain, without aboard, which was moored in the port of Vlychos.
Officials of the Port Authority went to the spot, where they found that the boat had taken a big tilt towards the bow and was sinking at a fast rate due to the inflow of water. A diving crew immediately arrived, with whose assistance a complete pumping out of the water was carried out, while at the same time the owner of the boat was informed. The boat was then safely towed to the Vlychos quay to be towed ashore by its owner. No injuries were reported from the incident and no marine pollution was observed.
The Port Authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, arrested the 70-year-old shipowner for violation of article 277 par. 2 of the Civil Code. ¨Causing a shipwreck¨, while at the same time it was forbidden to sail until the presentation of an airworthiness certificate by the attending classifier.
