Lenovo is developing an experimental ThinkBook prototype known internally as “Project Swan,” featuring a motorized rollable screen that extends horizontally from both sides of the chassis.
Project Swan Hardware Architecture and Motorized Mechanics
The design philosophy behind Project Swan builds directly on Lenovo’s ongoing experimentation with flexible OLED and rolling display substrates. Unlike the vertical layout of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, Project Swan deploys its extra display estate horizontally. According to Windows Latest and Notebookcheck, the prototype stores additional screen panels inside internal compartments positioned along the left and right edges of the lid.
Precision-engineered motorized guide rails handle the physical extraction of the display film. To accommodate these moving side modules, the hinge connecting the display assembly to the keyboard base is notably shorter and centered more tightly. From the front, the device maintains the appearance of a standard business laptop, featuring a centralized web camera and dual USB-C ports along the chassis edge. The clear “ThinkBook” branding stamped on the palm rest cements its place in Lenovo’s enterprise-focused product family rather than its consumer gaming tiers.
Evolution from Vertical Concepts to Ultrawide Horizontal Panels
Lenovo has systematically explored rollable form factors across multiple product categories over recent hardware cycles. Earlier iterations included the Legion Pro Rollable shown at CES, which featured a gaming-spec hardware configuration capable of expanding a 16-inch integrated panel outward up to 24 inches in a horizontal orientation. While the Legion gaming concept focused on heavy graphical workloads, Project Swan shifts the rollable paradigm squarely toward mobile productivity and enterprise workflows.
By stretching the screen horizontally, mobile professionals can leverage an ultrawide workspace natively. This eliminates the operational friction of carrying secondary portable displays or managing multi-monitor cabling on the road. The mechanical execution mirrors concepts seen in foldable smartphones like Samsung’s latest folding handsets, which push the boundaries of physical chassis limits to maximize viewable screen ratios.

Because Project Swan remains firmly in the pre-production prototype phase, final commercial availability, pricing structures, and configuration tiers have not been confirmed by the manufacturer.
