List of patients prohibited from fasting during Ramadan..who are they?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, through its official account on the “Instagram” website, published a list of patients who are prohibited from fasting during the month of Ramadan due to their need for fluids.

  • Diarrhea or regurgitation patients

the reason: Avoiding any of them suffering from kidney problems due to fluid loss, while it cannot be compensated due to fasting.

  • Patients with acute inflammation and high temperature

the reason: Fluid loss through perspiration

  • Patients suffering from heart failure, or lazy kidney and liver function, and their need for diuretics

the reason: Accumulation of water in the body in the wrong place

On the other hand, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, through the “Al-Asturi” feature on the “Instagram” website, clarified a list of patients whom fasting helps to treat their diseases during the month of Ramadan.

  • Overweight people

  • Patients in pre- or early-onset diabetes (type 2 diabetes)

  • Patients with high cholesterol and triglycerides, knowing that fasting is part of the treatment plan for them

As for heart patients, they can practice fasting if they have controlled blood pressure and suffer from the following:

  • obesity

  • Lack of movement and physical exertion

  • Triglycerides

  • Presence of disturbed or elevated blood sugar

However, there are some categories of heart patients, who are not allowed to fast, according to what the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population has clarified, and this category includes:

  • Those who underwent intensive care due to a heart attack within 6 months of starting fasting

  • Changing their diabetes or stress medication more than once during a 6-month period from the start of fasting, especially if they receive insulin more than once a day

  • Patients who underwent open heart surgery within 6 months of starting fasting

  • Patients who have had a stent installed as a result of a heart attack within 6 months of starting the fast
