Lives Lost in Lebanon-Israel Border Clashes

THREE more Hezbollah fighters were killed in border clashes with Israeli troops, the Lebanese group said on Sunday (11/8).

Hezbollah identified the slain fighters as Hassan Mustafa, Mohammad Haidar, and Ali Hijazi, “who had climbed the road to Jerusalem,” according to the group’s statement.

As a result, the death toll of Hezbollah members due to clashes with Israel has risen to 407 since October 8 last year, according to Anadolu’s tally.

Fears have grown of a full-blown war between Israel and Hezbollah amid months of cross-border exchanges of fire, especially with Hezbollah threatening military retaliation after the killing of its commander Fuad Shukr in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on July 30.

The escalation comes against the backdrop of Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip that has killed nearly 39,800 people since last October following cross-border attacks by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.(I-2)
