During the urgent extraordinary session, the Local Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) in Hidalgo, headed by President Counselor Ma del Refugio García López, resolved a complaint for alleged slanderous propaganda.
Alma Carolina Viggiano Austria, in her capacity as candidate for senator for the state of Hidalgo, nominated by the Fuerza y Corazón por México Coalition, denounced the MORENA party for the alleged dissemination of slanderous propaganda on the social network Instagram identified as “morena_partido” , because according to the complainant, this could have an impact on the 2023-2024 Federal Electoral Process, by confusing or deceiving citizens.
In a unanimous vote of the Local Council, it was declared inadmissible to order the removal of the reported material, since from a preliminary analysis, it was considered that the use of the phrase “Involved in scandals due to irregularities in their real estate”does not detect elements or expressions that unequivocally lead to the imputation of a false fact or crime.
That is, the electoral campaign period is currently taking place, a stage in which strong and vigorous criticism of the political trajectory of the candidates is allowed within the framework of political debate, which is protected by freedom of expression.
Once the investigation by the Local Executive Board in Hidalgo is completed, the complete file will be sent to the Specialized Regional Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF), because it is the competent body to issue a sentence of background on the controversy raised.
